Netcraft reports that their web server survey counted over 113 658 468 sites, an increase of over 3 million since March. Apache web server is leading the market share with 58%, Microsoft is the second with 31% share. New web server has been added to market share tracking: lighttpd. Lighttpd is an open source web server designed for high performance sites especially with large number of parallel connections. It has currently just 1.2% of market share (1.38 million sites) and becomes quite popular in sites using Ajax.
