Joomla! 1.7 Server Requirements

Joomla 1.7 was released recently, and it is quite an update. 

As for the hosting, Joomla 1.7 requirements are similar to Joomla 1.6, so most modern hosts should be fine.

 

 

Make sure that your hosting provider meets these minimum requirements:

  • PHP 5.2 +
  • MySQL 5.0.4 +
  • Apache 1.3 (with mod_mysql, mod_xml, mod_zlib and mod_rewrite)

 

There are a few factors one needs to keep in mind for future:

  • no legacy mode - so old extensions will not run. More and more extensions appear for Joomla 1.7, so soon there should be a lot to choose from
  • new ACL features - you can assign certain permissions to users and groups
